  • Here on the Mid-North Coast, we are in abundance of termites. There are 6 species of termites that are of concern here in our region.

    Termites like to live in high humid and temperature areas. Generally, a subterranean nest will be around 100% humidity with a temperature at 30-36 degrees. Worker and Soldier termites live for 1-2 years with the Queen living 10-15 years.

    Termites live in colonies ranging from a few hundred to millions. They can build mounds, some nest underground, and others live in trees.

  • On the Mid-North Coast, the more common species of spiders are: Funnel-web, Huntsman, Orb-weaving, Jumping, Wolf, Redback and Black house spiders.

    The life cycle of most web spinning spiders is less than 12 months with ground-dwelling, being many years.

  • On the Mid-North Coast, we have a number of species which include: Australian, American, Oriental, Smokey Brown, Brown-Banded and German.

    Cockroaches have lived for over 300 million years. There are about 3500 species.

    The German is the hardest to control due to being the most prolific breeder out of all the pest cockroaches. Small in stature and usually found in wet areas of the house. The female produces 30-40 eggs every 3-4 weeks and lives for approximately 6-7 months.

  • Here on the Mid-North Coast, our main types of ants include: Black House, Coastal Brown, Funnel and Carpentar ants.

    There are approximately 3000 species of ants. As a group, ants are considered to be among the most successful of all insects.

    The queen can live up to 15 years, where a Worker generally lives for about 1 year.

  • There are approximately 2380 species of fleas worldwide with about 90 in Australia.

    On the Mid-North Coast, the main species include: Cat, Dog, Stickfast and Human fleas.

    The female may lay several hundred eggs in her lifetime. Adults are bloodsuckers and may live 100-500 days and can endure long periods, of up to 4 months without food.

  • In Australia, there are approximately 12000 species. On the Mid-North Coast, the most common species are: Native Paper, Brown Paper, Mud and European Wasps.

    The life expectancy of an adult wasp is usually from a few weeks to a couple of months, with the Queen up to a year.

  • Rats and mice are responsible for large amounts of loss in storage. They contaminate food with their droppings, urine and hair. There are many diseases transmitted to humans by rodents, including, Salmonella.

    The most common Rodents here on the Mid-North Coast are: Norway, Roof and House mouse. Each have a life span of approximately 1 year.

    Rats have a litter size of 6-10 with an average number of 4-6 litters per year.
